About

I watch people for a living and try to improve the stuff they use. I come with an expert-level game in exploratory and generative research, product-led strategy, and Lean process.

I see my work as ultimately strategic. Teams base decisions on my insights, and I want to support them with research that informs, surprises, and can be relied upon. But it's not enough to emerge from a secret UXR lair after a few weeks and simply present findings. I work collaboratively with teams on the questions they care about, involving them all along the way from study design, participant selection, live interviews, and analysis.

Lead User Researcher | 2022 - 2023

The company's first researcher, I used a robust, multi-modal framework to create interesting new customer profiles where there had been only siloed tribal knowledge. This outcome and my efforts to socialize it in a variety of formats aligned company understanding of its customers, created new dialog and collaborations, and showed untapped growth potential.

My recommendations following my Product Experience discovery and JTB studies directly impacted multiple Product roadmaps for mid and late 2022, as well as being the primary source for the 2023 Product strategy. Examples of completed work include:
-Redesign of the recruiter’s view of a candidate’s profile (q3 2022 roadmap)
-Restructuring of recruiter pipeline and primary recruiter actions for candidate status (q4 2022 roadmap)

I performed multiple design testing studies, collaborating with and mentoring designers and PMs from start to finish.

I gave regular presentations at the company level for quick, tasty insight bites, as well as hosted in-depth explorations of findings. I proactively met with PMs to ideate Product response to UXR findings.

Senior User Experience Researcher | 2018 - 2021

As the Lead researcher on the business-critical “X-team” in the Creator-to-Fan group, my work directly shaped our strategy for the experimental initiative we were tasked with. Through discovery research and surveying, I was able to formulate the target producer and customer, demonstrating their key values, fears, motivations, and expectations for our experimental area. This work directly prioritized specific concepts for testing and development. Through multiple rounds of monadic concept testing, I was able to not only eliminate ideas that were “great on paper,” but champion those that most excited our users and subsequently went into development.

In addition to executing the research cycle, I was a key player in the daily work of the X-team, regularly collaborating in ideation and design workshops, serving as sparring partner for the PM and designer, and presenting our (2-week) sprint findings to the entire Creator business line.

In my time as the lone UX Researcher for the Listener business line (Mar 2018 - Jan 2021), my findings impacted multiple roadmaps and produced measurable experience improvements.

I led hiring for UXR in 2020 and 2021, adding (and then onboarding) two senior researchers, one junior researcher, and three interns.

For six months in 2020, I mentored a junior researcher and a research intern. I also mentored a design intern for most of 2021. In 2019 I created the Insights Guild, which brought together UXR and Audience Research for cross-pollination and sharing of minor research tasks.
